Australia Job Opportunities Jobs and Employment

Heard about the fantastic job opportunities the mining world can offer? Take some time to learn about this great career path and where it can take you. Mining in Australia has been around since coal was discovered near Newcastle in 1971. The industry really kicked off though in 1841 when silver was found in South Australia, and gold in Victoria a decade later. The gold rush saw an influx of prospectors and Melbourne quickly grew to be the biggest city in Australia. The mining industry is till going strong and has expanded to include an array of other minerals and ores.

You may not realise it, but coal is responsible for more than three-quarters of Australia's electricity production, and the country is also the world's largest producer of opal. Diamond, lead, uranium, nickel, copper and zinc are also mined in Australia, with companies operating in every state. This means there are numerous job opportunities, not only related directly to the extraction of the mineral, but also involving such things as equipment maintenance, catering, cleaning, plumbing and electrical planning.

There are two types of mines, open-cast and underground, both involving different methods of extracting the product. Because most of the mines are on remote locations, many of the workers are employed in FIFO (fly in/fly out) positions, which may be an option for you, so you'll have two or three weeks on the mine site then be flown back home for your week off. The job opportunities available in Australia's mines range from short-term positions, which are great if you want to save a lot of money in a short space of time, to long-term careers such as the ones mentioned earlier.

Our service has assisted thousands of people like yourself to get a start in the mining industry, by providing information on the types of jobs available and what their requirements are, and by assisting with resume writing so you can greatly improve your chances of securing interviews. We also recommend which positions might be suitable for you to look in to, based on the information you provide us with regarding your interests and background.
